Insurers do not promote the benefits of telematics insurance!

Recently, Redtail Telematics/YouGov conducted a survey on consumer perspectives on car insurance.  Interestingly, the results revealed that insurers do not promote the savings and benefits of telematics-based motor insurance to their customers.
Redtail Press Release
  • In fact, only 4% of respondents have received any communication from their insurer to discuss a telematics-based insurance policy
  • Furthermore, insurers had not told 76% of respondents the benefits of telematics-based motor insurance
  • On average, drivers saved around £300 a year when they switched to By Miles

Survey reveals insurers are missing opportunities to win new telematics customers

In fact, only 4% of respondents received communication from insurers to promote telematics-based insurance.  In particular, insurers did not inform customers of reduced premium opportunities.

Could comparison websites be part of the problem?

Unfortunately, comparison websites are part of the problem because they lack transparency. Consequently, insurers find it difficult to promote telematics policies on comparison websites. Consumer interest in telematics-based insurance continues to rise. More than ever, motorists recognise the savings of telematics-supported motor insurance policies.

Ford has appointed Redtail Telematics as a reseller of connected vehicle data to motor insurers in the UK

Redtail Press Release

Leading Telematics Service Provider Redtail Telematics has signed an agreement with Ford Motor Company, whereby Redtail Telematics will become a technical partner and reseller of connected vehicle data to motor insurers for both personal and commercial lines in the UK.

Redtail Telematics will apply its insight, experience and expertise to create bespoke processed data streams from Ford vehicles’ multiple sensors

18th February 2022.  Leading Telematics Service Provider Redtail Telematics has signed an agreement with Ford Motor Company, whereby Redtail Telematics will become a technical partner and reseller of connected vehicle data to motor insurers for both personal and commercial lines in the UK.

As part of the agreement, Redtail Telematics will apply its insight, experience and expertise to create bespoke processed data streams from Ford vehicles’ multiple sensors that are of actionable value for motor insurers.  That data will allow those insurers to maximize their understanding of policyholders to manage premium, risk, reward and claims processes.

The partnership between Ford and Redtail Telematics provides insurers with substantial and accurate data that does not rely on the installation of a ‘black box’ in the vehicle, offering a cost-effective alternative. Subject to customer consent, data is extracted from the vehicle and enables insurers to reach new market segments who pay lower premiums.

Redtail CEO Dr Colin Smithers commented:

“Redtail Telematics’ partnership with Ford in the UK helps insurance providers use connected vehicle data – without the need for plug-in devices – to inform their usage-based insurance programs, improve their underwriting process, and pass along driver behavior discounts to those Ford vehicle owners who qualify”.

Mark Harvey, Director, Enterprise Connectivity, Ford of Europe said:

“Ford is excited to further extend its usage-based insurance offering in partnership with Redtail Telematics, which will allow our customers across the UK to benefit from even greater value for money insurance policies”
