WHAT IS THE REDTAIL DATAWAREHOUSE?

Q: I know Redtail GPS has a total solution to track and manage fleets of up to 100 vehicles, with dashboards and reports, driver behavior, vehicle information, location & mapping. It’s affordable, reliable and effective – but our fleet is much larger than that. Do you have a solution for us?

A: Yes we do: it’s called the Redtail Telematics DataWarehouse, and it’s now meeting the needs of large fleet customers on both sides of the Atlantic. For hardware in the vehicle it uses the exact same GPS device: the PTCRB certified Redtail VAM1, which provides continuous 1Hz positional data and 10Hz 3-axis accelerometer data: the high frequency  driver behavior data which captures harsh braking, excessive rotation and acceleration, as well as other partial and complete journey information, asset tracking and location data,  pre- and post-crash data, and more.

Depending on customer requirements including the size of the fleet, the Redtail DataWarehouse architecture can be scaled from a single server up to multiple high availability database shards, capable of capturing continuous location and journey data streams from an effectively unlimited number of Redtail Telematics VAM1 devices. The data is buffered and transmitted to the DataWarehouse using a range of  standard protocols (including SOAP, FTP,  and MS WCF), and does not need to be in real time, so that end user server requirements are minimized.

Data arriving randomly and at potentially high rates is load balanced and fed to internally redundant databases that can push data immediately or be mined at a later time. The databases are professionally hosted on multi-site server farms, and the system has been designed to survive everything from momentary cellular drops, breakdowns and power outages to disc crashes and other catastrophic events.
